Business Development Representative

Our client is a very well established global freight forwarding and logistics company with core business in Intercontinental air and sea freight transportation solutions. We are looking for a Business Development Representative to plan and carry out direct sales activities to attain new accounts in accordance with agreed sales and business plans. Work with Branch Manager to grow revenue and exceed targets by promoting and selling our business and driving sales activity through a designated territory.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES AND ACCOUNTABILITIES:

1. Sales and Business Development

a. Maintain and develop existing, new and prospect customers through appropriate propositions and ethical sales methods, both import and export.
b. Assist the Branch Manager in the preparation and negotiation of bids, RFQ’s & quotations for customers, suppliers and overseas agents
c. Assist with sales campaigns and events in conjunctions with local and overseas partners
d. Co-ordinate and attend sales visits both in Canada, and with overseas partners for aiding business development
e. Plan and manage personal business portfolio/territory according to agreed market strategy
f. Joint sales visits with other sales professionals
g. Be compliant with all regulations prescribed by Canada Customs/IATA/Transport Canada and other governing bodies
h. Offer sales support for future sales offices in remote locations
i. Quoting of freight costs to new customers
j. Response and follow up sales enquires and leads using appropriate methods

2. Client and Supplier Management

a. Client Management of allocated customers using established tools with a view to achieving and exceeding targets
b. Weekly follow up with new clients after their first shipments
c. Deployment of information to all parties about contracts with customers and suppliers
d. Ensure that any client entertainment activities are carried out in a professional and responsible manner to ensure the continuing good name of company
e. Ensure customer requests are completed in a timely manner and to the highest possible service level
f. Adhere to client service level agreements

3. Administration

a. Monitor competitor activity and industry trends
b. Attend industry related functions when required as a key representative of company
c. Update and maintain all relevant information about customers and sales activities in EDI Enterprise and myCRM
g. Provide monthly reporting of sales activities
h. Attend meetings with sales team members
i. Attend training to develop relevant knowledge, techniques and skills

2. Excellence in service delivery – displays good interdepartmental relationships and ensures customers, suppliers and overseas agents needs are a primary function of one actions and decisions, developing and sustaining productive customer relationships

3. Sales – Apply a range of approaches to sell company services within the market place, is comfortable with pursuing leads and new contacts and demonstrates resilience and optimum in their approach

4. Financial Awareness – Has an understanding of the key financial principles that reflect and drive profitability and as part of the team ensure the department achieves its financial and quality objectives

5. Set and meet Sales goals and objectives in accordance with company guidelines in key performance areas and using agreed key performance indicators (sales calls, visits, quotations, new business)

6. Adhere to the minimum standard to which company is committed to (ISO 9001:2008 and ISO 14001:2004), implement Policies and Procedures and ensure as part of the team the department achieves its financial and quality objectives

QUALIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION CERTIFICATION: High school graduate or qualification preferred.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE: Has knowledge of related computer applications & reporting
Familiarity with all freight forwarding procedures, regulations & departments

EXPERIENCE REQUIRED: Essentially 5-10 years of industry related experience required
Demonstrated Customer Services skills
Proven Sales and Business selling ability – face to face & phone

Able to find solutions to difficult situations and customer needs

VEHICLE: Must own, maintain and properly insure a car and be legally licensed to drive it
